Question 821709
Points A and B move with uniform speed along straight lines that intersect at right angles at point O.
When A is at O, B is 100m from O.
after 5 minutes they are equidistant from O.
after 5 more minutes they are again equidistant from O.
Then the ratio of A's speed to B's speed is
:
Let x = dist traveled by A after the 1st 5 min
then, since they are equidistant from O,
(100-x) = dist traveled by B after the 1st 5 min
(A was moving away from O, B was moving towards O)
:
They traveled the same distance in the 2nd 5 min
Then A dist is 2x from O and B is also 2x from O
(A still moving away from O, however B moved thru O, and moved away from O also)
:
We can say that after 10 min
A total dist is 2x
B's total dist: (100-x) + x + 2x = (100+2x)
Ratio of speed and distance will be the same
A:B
{{{(2x)/(100+2x)}}} = {{{x/(50+x)}}}
