Question 69209
subtract and simplify:

{{{2/(x+1)-3/(x-3)}}}  Lets first get a common denominator.  We do this by multiplying each term by {{{((x+1)(x-3))/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

{{{(2/(x+1))((x+1)(x-3))/((x+1)(x-3))-(3/(x-3))((x+1)(x-3))/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

reducing we get:

{{{(2(x-3)-3(x+1))/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

Next get rid of parens in numerator:

{{{(2x-6-3x-3)/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

Collect like terms in numerator:

{{{(-x-9)/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

{{{-(x+9)/((x+1)(x-3))}}}

Unless I goofed, that should be it

Hope this helps---ptaylor
