Question 68313
 area of rectangle = length(l) times width(w) or {{{A=lw}}}

{{{216=18w}}} divide both sides by 18
{{{w=12 ft}}}

Now lets deal in feet:

{{{(1/2) inch=(1/24) ft}}}

Now we have two ratios to deal with:
First, the length
{{{((1/24)/6)=x/18}}}  cross multiply

{{{6x=18/24}}} divide both sides by 6
{{{x=3/24=(1/8) ft}}} or
{{{x=(1.5) inches}}}------------------------------length scaled down

Next the width
{{{((1/24)/6)=x/12}}}  cross multiply
{{{6x=12/24}}} divide both sides by 6
{{{x=2/24=1/12 ft}}} or
{{{x=(1) inch}}}-----------------------------width scaled down

{{{1.5=(3) halves}}}
{{{3(6)=18}}}
{{{18=18}}}

{{{1=(2) halves}}}
{{{2(6)=12}}}
{{{12=12}}}

Hope this helps---ptaylor
