My daughter is looking to buy a rare 1/2 cent coin. My husband says since it now costs $50 that it has increased in value by 10000 times. I disagree and say its a 5000% increase in value. A dinner rides on the answer.

5000/0.5 = 10000 times

It's an increase of 5000 - 0.5 =  4999.5
4999.5/0.5 = 9999 --> an increase of 999900%
