Question 803290
(I accidentally did the wrong problem, but the example IS well done, so I hope you can understand and use it. Doing it onto the message and in text form was a difficult process.)

These can be done exactly as you learned for regular long division.

You need ALL integer powers of x, including those with coefficients of 0.

____________|____x^2________2x____________-7
____________|________________________________________________
x-2_________|____x^3_______0*x^2__________-3x___________-2
_________________x^3_______-2x^2
________________________________
_________________0________+2x^2__________-3x
__________________________2x^2___________4x
____________________________________________
__________________________0______________-7x___________-2
_________________________________________-7x___________14
__________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________-16

Result is {{{highlight(x^2+2x-7-16/(x-2))}}}

The third row shows the divisor and the dividend. The top row shows the quotient excluding the remainder. Many more horizontal lines are shown in order to ensure proper alignment for displaying the process. This process is just like regular long division.
