Question 795574
An open cylindrical acid-bath is made from sheet lead 1 cm thick. Its external dimensions are 24 cm diameter and 20 cm depth. Calculate the mass of the bath if the density of lead is 11.45 g/cm3.
-----------
The volume of the base is pi*r^2*h = 144pi cc
-----
The volume of the sides is pi*12^2*20 - pi*11^2*20 = 460pi cc
Total = 604pi cc
Mass = vol*density = 11.45*604*pi grams
=~ 21727 grams
=========================
You get 20.9 kg if you use 19 cm as the depth, rather than 20 cm.
The depth is stated as 20 cm, that's the distance from the top to the inside bottom, not the outside. External dimensions and depth are not the same.
