Question 792664
If cut the can perpendicularly from top to bottom and unroll this surface flat, then you can easily visualize ( but not as easily compute) the surface area. This IS the sheet of metal which was used to form the can.

The length around the can is the circumference of the can; and the height is the other dimensional length to use.

Diameter is 1 inch.
Circumference is 2*pi*1, so area is {{{(2*pi*1)*4}}} {{{inche^2}}}
That value is 8*pi, or about 25.1 square inches.
