If you have a definition of a function, and want to evaluate it at a value, just replace the independent variable everywhere it exists with the desired value.  Then simplify.


Write out your *[tex \Large g(x)] in pencil, then everywhere you see an *[tex \Large x], erase it and write *[tex \Large (a\ +\ 1)] in its place.  Simplify.
