The interior angle adjacent to < 2 forms a linear pair with < 2, hence it is supplementary.  But you know that this angle adjacent to < 2 is equal in measure to < 1 because opposite interior angles are congruent.  So you can say that 2 plus its adjacent = 180 by definition of linear pair, then 2 plus 1 = 180 by substitution.
