Question 778771

40% of vero's postal service employees are women. If there are 80 women in Vero's postal service, how many men are employed there?

Using the formula below how can you get the correct answer?

          part    %
          ---- = ----
          whole  100

With 40%, or 80 employees being women, and with E being the amount of employees,
we get:

{{{part/whole = percent/100}}}, or {{{80/E = .4/1}}}

.4E = 80 ------- Cross-multiplying

E, or amount of employees = {{{80/.4}}}, or {{{200}}}

As 60% of these 200 employees are men, we can say that the number of men = {{{.6 * 200}}}, or {{{highlight_green(120)}}}

OR

{{{part/whole = percent/100}}}, or {{{M/200 = .6/1}}}

Number of men, or M = .6 * 200 ------- Cross-multiplying

{{{highlight_green(M = 120)}}}

You can do the check!!
