Question 778550

the difference between two numbers is 13.Twice the smaller plus three times the larger is 129.What are the numbers?

Let the larger number be L

Then the smaller = L - 13

We then have: 2(L - 13) + 3L = 129

2L - 26 + 3L = 129

2L + 3L = 129 + 26

5L = 155

L, or larger number = {{{155/5}}}, or {{{highlight_green(31)}}}

Smaller number = 31 - 13, or {{{highlight_green(18)}}}

You can do the check!!
