Question 777587
When the 10 km/h bikes are 20 km apart, a bee begins flying from one wheel to the other at a steady speed of 30 km/h. When it gets to the wheel, it abruptly tgurns around and flies back to touch the first wheel. Then turns around and keeps repeating the back and forth trip until the bikes meet and SQUISH.
How many kilometers did the bee travel in its total back and forth trips?
------------------
Find the time till the bikes meet:::
1st bike DATA:
rate = 10 km/hr ; distance = x km ; time = d/r = x/10 hrs
------------------
2nd bike DATA:
rate = 10 km/hr ; distance = 20-x km ; time = (20-x)/10 hrs
------------------
Equation:
x/10 = (20-x)/10
x = 20-x
2x = 20
x = 10 km
-------
How long does the bee fly?
x/10 = 10/10 = 1 hr
------
How far does the bee fly?
Ans: (1 hr)(30 km/hr) = 30 km
