That is not the same as
1/(x+1)-1/(x-2) = {{{1/(x+1)-1/(x-2)}}}
For {{{1/(x+1)-1/(x-2)}}} we need to use the common denominator {{{(x+1)*(x-2)=x^2-x-2}}}
{{{1/(x+1)-1/(x-2)=1*(x-2)/((x+1)*(x-2))-1*(x-1)/((x-2)*(x-1))=((x-2)-(x-1))/(x^2-x-2)=(x-2-x+1)/(x^2-x-2)=highlight(-1/(x^2-x-2))}}}
