I think you have mixed a couple of unrelated problems together here.  The two equations that you gave have no discernable relationship to the set of points or to the actual trend line that would come from a proper regression analysis of the given data.


FYI, the trend line, which has an *[tex \LARGE R^2] of a whopping 0.0154, is *[tex \LARGE y\ =\ 0.1x\ +\ 4], so says my graphing program and so says Excel.
