The numbers in parentheses are partial ordered pairs. You are given one of the pair of coordinates. The first coordinate is always the value of *[tex \LARGE x] and the second coordinate is always the value of *[tex \LARGE y] (hence the name <i>ordered</i> pair).

So if you are given the first number in the ordered pair, replace *[tex \LARGE x] in the given equation with that value and then do the arithmetic to find out the value of *[tex \LARGE y] that results.

For example, your problem #5. Replace the *[tex \LARGE x] with -6

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ y\ =\ -(-6)\ -\ 7]

Now do the arithmetic to determine the value of *[tex \LARGE y]

Do the others the same way. In number 7 and 8, you are given the value of *[tex \LARGE y], so substitute for *[tex \LARGE y] and then calculate *[tex \LARGE x].
