Use synthetic division with a divisor of *[tex \LARGE -2] into a dividend of *[tex \LARGE \underline{a\ b\ 1\ -6}] to get *[tex \LARGE -8a\ +\ 4b\ =\ 8].  Then do the same thing with a divisor of *[tex \LARGE 2] to get *[tex \LARGE 8a\ +\ 4b\ =\ 8].  Solve the 2X2 system.
