Question 757981
Suppose three spherical balls of wax with radius r are packed in
 a cylinder also with radius r and the balls are melted down.
 To what depth will the cylinder be filled.
 The answer needs to be in terms of r.
:
Find the vol of the three balls in terms of r
V(r) = 3 * {{{4/3}}}*{{{pi*r^3}}}
Cancel the 3
V(r) = {{{4*pi*r^3}}} cu/units is the volume of the wax
:
let d = the depth of the wax in the cylinder when melted
{{{pi*r^2*d}}} = {{{4*pi*r^3}}}
divide both sides by {{{pi*r^2}}}
d = 4r units is the depth
