Question 757628
"Write the rational number represented by each letter on the number line, as a fraction" I've looked through the textbook to find step by step instructions, I've checked online, asked around for help but none of them seem to help. I've basically tried everything I could. The thing that most confused me was the number line. It was put like this,

-|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|-
-12.........E..-11..F..........-10

I did look at the answer at the back of the textbook which was, E= 45/4 F= 43/4.
All I'm trying to figure out is how they got that! If you could help me with this, it would be gladly appreciated.
-------------------------------------
Notice that there are 4 segments separating -11 and -12.
Each of those segments is 1/4 th of the distance from
-11 to -12
The marks from right to left are at -11 1/4 ; -11 2/4 ; -11 3/4 ; -12
------
Notice that E is at the 1st marker to the left of -11.
The number there is -11 1/4
---
That number is -11 1/4 = -(4*11+1)/4 = -451/4
-----
Similarly F is between -10 and -11
F is at the mark -10 3/4 = -(4*10+3)/4 = -43/4
