Sean is 3 years older than Wayne. The sum of their ages is 15. How old is Sean?

The answer is S=9 W=6

Let the age of Wayne be x years.

Let the age of Sean be x + 3 years.

Therefore:

x + x + 3 = 15

2x + 3 = 15

2x + 3 - 3 = 15 - 3

2x = 12

x = 6

x + 3 = 6 + 3 = 9

Therefore:

Wayne is 6 years old and

Sean is 9 years old.
