Question 748655

please show me how to solve these problems (for x) .
16) log(x+4)-log6=1
18) log(x-1)^2=log(-5x-1)
please help. thank you again so much.

16) log(x+4)-log6=1

{{{log((x + 4)) - log(6) = 1}}}

{{{log((x + 4)/6) = 1}}}

{{{(x + 4)/6 = 10^1}}}

{{{(x + 4)/6 = 10}}}

x + 4 = 60 ------- Cross-multiplying

x = 60 - 4, or {{{highlight_green(x = 56)}}}

18) log(x-1)^2=log(-5x-1)

{{{log((x - 1))^2 = log((- 5x - 1))}}}

{{{(x - 1)^2 = - 5x - 1}}}

{{{x^2 - 2x + 1 = - 5x - 1}}}

{{{x^2 - 2x + 5x + 1 + 1 = 0}}}

{{{x^2 + 3x + 2 = 0}}}

(x + 1)(x + 2) = 0

{{{highlight_green(x = - 1)}}}, or {{{highlight_green(x = - 2)}}}

You can do the check on both!!
