Question 739487
If the ratio of boys to girls in a class is 3:8 will the ratio of boys to girls stay the same, increase or decrease if 2 boys and 2 girls are added?
:
Let 3x = original number of boys
let 8x = original number of girls
:
See if there is a value of x where this to be true
{{{(3x+2)/(8x+2)}}} = {{{3/8}}}
8(3x+2) = 3(8x+2)
24x + 16 = 24x + 6
obviously it can't be true (they can't be the same ratio)
:
assuming there are 3 boys and 8 girls originally
{{{(3+2)/(8+2)}}} = {{{5/10}}} = .5;  {{{3/8}}} = .375,
You decide which is the greater ratio
