Question 64329
please help!
1. Determine all x-intercepts of the rational function f(x)=x^2-2x/(x+4)^2
X^2 - 2X/(X+4)^2 = Y = 0
X[X-{2/(X+4)^2}]=0
X=0....IS THE X INTERCEPT
THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS
X=2/(X+4)^2
HAS NO SOLUION SINCE X HAS TO BE POSITIVE AND AT X =0 THE MINIMUM VALUE WE GET LHS =0 ...RHS = 0.125...AS X INCREASES LHS INCREASES AND RHS DECREASES.
X=0 IS THE ONLY X INTERCEPT
2. Find the x-coordinates of the points of intersection between the two functions x^2+y^2=113 and x+y=-15
(X+Y)^2= (-15)^2=225
X^+Y^2 = 113.................2
2XY = 225-213=12...................3
(X-Y)^2=113-12=101...................4
X-Y=SQRT(101)=10.05............5
X+Y=-15................1,
EQN.1+EQN.5 GIVES
2X=-4.95
 X=-2.475
3. Give the equation of a line that passes through the point(7,4) and is perpendicular to the line whose equation is given by 4x+5y=8
PERPENDICULAR LINE HAS EQN. OF TYPE
5X-4Y=K......IT PASSES THROUGH (7,4)
5*7-4*4=K
19=K
EQN. OF PERPENDICULAR IS 5X-4Y=19

Thank you!
