Odds and probability are both ratios. And both ratios have the same numerator: the number of ways a certain event could occur. The difference is in the denominators:<ul><li>For odds the denominator is the number of ways the certain event can not occur. (In this case, the number of ways to fail.)</li><li>For probability, the denominator is the total number of ways <i>anything</i> could occur. (In this case, the number ways one could pass plus the number of ways one could fail.)</li></ul>So if the odds are 2/5, then the probability would be 2/(2+5) or 2/7.
