Question 716103
If the height of the Washington Monument is 50.5 inches more than 10 times the length of a side of its square base.
 If the sum of these two dimensions is 7324 inches, What is the height of the Washington Monument, and how do you show the work for the problem
:
Let s = the length of the side of the base
:
height + base width = 7324
(10s + 50.5) + s = 7324
11s = 7374 - 50.5
11s = 7273.5
s = 7273.5/11
s = 661.22 inches is the length of the square base
and
10(661.22) + 50.5 = 6662.77 inches is the height (about 555.23 ft)
