Question 62891
QUESTION:

    jack has a triangular room that needs carpeting. how much carpeting will he need if the hypotenuse and one of the legs measures 24feet and 30 feet respectively? show your work. thank you

ANSWER:

Required carpet = Area of the triangle.

Since it is right angled trianle, its area = 1/2 * base * height.

Here, hypotenuse = 30 ft

      base  =  24 ft

So height = square root( 30^2 -24^2)

          = square root( 900 - 576)

          = square root (324)

          = 18

Therefore height = 18 ft.

So area of triangle = 1/2 * 24 * 18

                    = 216 square ft.

Required carpet = 216 square ft.
