The first question you need to answer is: How far will the first train have traveled in the first 6 hours?  Once you have that distance, you know how far train B has to go to catch up.  The first 40 mph that train B is traveling just keeps up with train A, the only part of B's speed that allows it to catch up at all is the 10 mph difference in the two trains' speeds.  So the question becomes: How long does it take to travel 240 miles at 10 miles per hour?
