So it MUST be true that:&lt;br&gt;

{{{x+14=5x-2}}} and {{{2y+4=3y-3}}}&lt;br&gt;

It is also true that:&lt;br&gt;

{{{x+14=2y+4}}} etc., but that is not nearly as useful (even though you could still solve for x and y using the right methods).&lt;br&gt;

So let&#39;s use those first two equations to solve for x and y:&lt;br&gt;

{{{x+14=5x-2}}}&lt;br&gt;

{{{14=4x-2}}}&lt;br&gt;

{{{16=4x}}}&lt;br&gt;

{{{x=4}}}&lt;br&gt;

AND&lt;br&gt;

{{{2y+4=3y-3}}}&lt;br&gt;

{{{4=y-3}}}&lt;br&gt;

{{{y=7}}}&lt;br&gt;

If you check these answers, you will find that all four sides equal 18.&lt;br&gt;

And that is a comforting thing!&lt;br&gt;
