Question 686127
1/6(a-4)=1/3(2a+4)
You could either distribute the 1/6 and the 1/3 or
multiply the entire equation by 18 (LCM of 6 and 3) to remove the fractions.
...
{{{18(1/6)(a-4) =18(1/3)(2a+4)}}}
...
3(a-4) = 6(2a+4) ==> distribute the 3 and 6
3a - 12 = 12a + 24 ==> group like terms
3a - 12a = 24 + 12 ==> combine like terms
-9a = 36 ==> divide both sides by -9 to isolate the a variable
{{{highlight_green(a = -4)}}}
