Question 684180

Hello tutor, can you help me on this problem? Thank you!

Tom is now 25 years older than his son. In 10 years, Tom will be 5 years younger than 3 times his son's age. How old is Tom now?

Let Tom be N years old now.

Thank you again! :)

As Tom’s current age is N, then his son’s currently N - 25
Also, N + 10 = 3(N – 25 + 10) – 5
N + 10 = 3(N – 15) – 5
N + 10 = 3N – 45 - 5
N – 3N = - 50 - 10
– 2N = - 60

N, or Tom’s current age = {{{(- 60)/- 2}}}, or {{{highlight_green(30)}}}

You can do the check!!
