Question 678245

A woman invested 5 times as much at 8% as she did at 5%. The total amount of interest she earns in 1 year from both accounts is $3,150. How much did she invest at each rate?

Let amount invested at 5% be F
Then amount invested at 8% = 5F
Therefore, .05F + .08(5F) = 3,150
.05F + .4F = 3,150
.45F = 3,150
F, or amount invested at 5% = {{{3150/.45}}}, or ${{{highlight_green(7000)}}}

Amount invested at 8% = 5(7,000), or ${{{highlight_green(35000)}}}

You can do the check!!
