Question 61090
Hi CH lam,

A church spire 82 metres high casts a shadow 62 metres long. Find the angle of elevation of the sun at that moment.

:
Draw a right triangle, the spire (I'm not sure what that is, I am assuming that it goes all the way down to the ground) is the side going up and down opposite the angle with the ground, the shadow is the side ajacent to the angle.
:
Opposite side=82m
ajacent side=62m
angle of elevation=x
:
tan(x)=opposite/ajacent
{{{tan(x)=82m/62m}}}
{{{tan(x)=41/31}}}
x=tan^(-1)(41/31)<--inverse tan or arctan
x=52.907 degrees
Happy Calculating!!!
