Just wanted to give your question a try...


Number of units that competition makes:  1230 units x 140% (or 1.4) = 1722 units


Since Acme Manufacturing makes 140% of its competition, Acme Manufacturing must make 1722 units.  


One thing I ask that you double-check is that your word problem doesn't say that **Acme Manufacturing's daily production of widgets is 140% *MORE* than its competition's.**   If the word MORE is in your problem, then the answer I provided you with would not be correct.
