Question 60775

your question is not complete.

can you help me re-write Rewrite this equation 2x – 9y = –72 as a function of
============================================================
if you want to rewrite the equation as a function of  x  , the solution is like this;

2x - 9y = -72

retain the x term in the left side and bring all the other terms to the other side.

==>  2x = -72 + 9y

now multiply the whole expression by 2

==>2x/2 = -72/2  +  9y/2

==> x = -36 + (9y)/2

this is a function of x.

==============================================================================

If your question is re write the equation in terms of y, then the solution is

2x – 9y = –72

retain the y term in the left side and bring the other term to the other side

or here we can transpose the terms ike,

2x+72 = 9y {bring 9y to the right side at the same time bring -72 to the other side . Remember the sign of the term will change.)

now  divide both sides of the equal sign by 9 { because 9y means 9* y and the multiplication operation will become division when it moves to the other side.}

thus we have, (2x)/9 + 72/9 = y

==> y = (2x)/9 + 72/9, which is  a function of y
