Question 60601
In order to add or subtract fractions, they have to have the same denominator.
:
Simplify variable expression:

{{{(-1/2)x - (1/3)x}}}
This has a LCD (lowest common denominator) of 6. Whatever you do to the denominator to get 6 you have to do to the numerator.
{{{(-1*3/(2*3))x-(1*2/(3*2))x}}}
{{{(-3/6)x-(2/6)x}}} Combine the numerators, the denominator is the same.
{{{((-3-2)/6)x}}} When the signs are the same, add and keep the sign.
{{{(-5/6)x}}}
Happy Calculating!!!
