Question 664850

Find the general form equation of the line that contains (-3,2) and has a slope of 1/2

Using the point-slope form: {{{y - y[1] = m(x - x[1])}}}, the point, (- 3, 2), and m, or slope of {{{1/2}}}, we get:

{{{y - 2 = (1/2)(x - 3)}}}

{{{y - 2 = (1/2)x - 3/2}}}

{{{y = (1/2)x - 3/2 + 4/2}}}

{{{y = (1/2)x + 1/2}}}

2y = x + 1 ------ Multiplying equation by LCD, 2

{{{highlight_green(x - 2y + 1 = 0)}}}, since the GENERAL FORM of a linear function is: Ax + By + C = 0
