Question 660301
A man distributes 2 pounds among 20 boys, giving 5p each to some and 25p to the rest. How many boys received 25p each?

I don't wan't the answer; I don't even want the equation. I would very much appreciate it if you would explain how to translate this word problem into a linear equation.

Thank you for your time.

Let the amount of boys he gave 25p to, be T
Then amount of boys he gave 5p to = 20 - T
We now have: 25T + 5(20 - T) = 2 * amount of pences in a pound.

This is the equation you'd then need to solve for T, in order to determine the amount of boys he gave 25p to.
