Question 659717

I need to see the steps to solve this equation:

2/7 - 1/7x = 3/7

Textbook says x=5 but your solver says x= -1 which is what I got also so I need to see the steps to solve this.

Thanks!
Grace

If the text book gives an answer of x = 5, then it's either you're looking at the wrong answer or you copied the equation incorrectly. If not, then the book has an incorrect answer.

{{{2/7 - (1/7)x = 3/7}}}

{{{2/7 - x/7 = 3/7}}}

Since all denominators are similar then we have:
2 - x = 3

- x = 3 - 2

{{{highlight_green(x = - 1)}}}

If by {{{(1/7)x}}}, you meant {{{1/7x}}} instead of {{{(1/7)x}}}, the answer is still {{{x = - 1}}}
