9 minus 10 is -1, so your answer should have been *[tex \LARGE -1\ -\ 7x] which is the same thing as the teacher's *[tex \LARGE -7x\ -\ 1].  The 'backwards' thing makes no difference, it is the missing sign that is the problem.  On the off chance that the teacher is saying that *[tex \LARGE -1\ -\ 7x] is incorrect, then s/he must have given specific instructions to write terms in descending order of degree (the -7x term being degree 1 and the -1 term being degree 0).
