Question 656242

If all men had identical body types their weights would vary directly as the cube of their heights. Robert Wadlow was 8 feet 11 inches tall (107 inches) at the time of his death. If a man who is 5 feet 10 inches tall (70 inches) with the same body type as Mr Wadlow weighs 170 pounds, what was Mr Wadlows weight?
This is supposed to be a proportion problem and I can't get the equation.
The answer is approximately 607 pounds. Can you help?

Weight = {{{H^3}}}
Let Wadlow’s weight then be W
Then: {{{170/W = 70^3/107^3}}}, or {{{W/107^3 = 170/70^3}}}
{{{70^3(W) = 170(107^3)}}} ----- Cross-multiplying
{{{W = (170(107^3))/70^3}}}
W, or Wadlow's weight then = 607.16417 ≈ 607 lbs
