Question 59610
Ninety-five percent of cars are parked in one space in the parking lot. If 8 cars are taking two spaces, how many cars are parked in one space?
:
I am not sure if this is the easiest way to do this, but here's one way to do this.
If 95% parked in 1 space, then 100%-95%=5% parked in two spaces.
Let the total number of cars be x:
then
.05x=8
.50x/.05=8/.05
x=160
Once you find that then, 160-8=152 parked in one space.
You can also say, .95(160)=152 parked in one space.
:
Here's another way to set this up. Set up a proportion of 95% to 5% equal to x to 8:
{{{.95/.05=x/8}}}
{{{8*(.95)/.05=x}}}
{{{highlight(152=x)}}}
Happy Calculating!!!
