Question 650017
r(=-with slash line through it; idk what it means)(plus or minus) 2, r^2-5r+6/r^2-4
i guess if is supposed to go before the r or whatever. ^no symbols for the stuff in parenthesis... im so confused, any help is greatly received with appreciation. I need to learn about rational expressions and this one is the most evil to me :O

I guess what you're asking is for this expression to be simplified. From your explanantion it seems as though the problem states that r is NOT equal to 2, or - 2, or ({{{r <> 2_or_r <> - 2}}}). If it were then the the expression would be UNDEFINED.

{{{(r^2 - 5r + 6)/(r^2 - 4)}}}

{{{((r - 3)(r - 2))/((r - 2)(r + 2))}}} ----- Factoring numerator and denominator

{{{((r - 3)cross((r - 2)))/(cross((r - 2))(r + 2))}}} ------- Canceling out (r - 2) in numerator and denominator

This leaves: {{{highlight_green((r - 3)/(r + 2))}}}, with {{{r <> - 2}}}
