Question 650014

Burt's Burger Barn sold 495 hamburgers today. The number sold with cheese was half the number sold without cheese. How much of each kind were sold?
Can you please explain how to do this as well, I am confused on it

Let amount of cheeseburgers sold be C

Then amount of burgers sold without cheese = 495 - C, since a total of 495 were sold

Also, {{{C = (1/2) (495 - C)}}}, since the amount sold with cheese was {{{1/2}}} of the amount sold without cheese

{{{C = (495 - C)/2}}}

2C = 495 - C ----- Multiplying by LCD, 2

2C + C = 495

3C = 495

C, or amount of cheeseburgers sold = {{{495/3}}}, or {{{highlight_green(165)}}}

Amount of burgers without cheese that were sold = 495 - 165, or {{{highlight_green(330)}}}
