Question 649934
In order to build a house, a 15,300 gallon lake must be drained. Water can be drained from the lake at a
rate of 35 gallons per minute.
So I identified my variables,
water - independent variable - g - gallons
time - dependent variable - m - minutes
After staring at it for forever, I could only think that the problem is easily solved by dividing 15,300 by 35.
So my equation is:
m= 15,300/35
Which would make the horizontal intercept 437.14, meaning the lake could be drained completely in 437.14 minutes.
IT SEEMS WAY TOO SIMPLE! Am I doing this problem right?
===================
Volume = flow rate * time
time = Vol/flow
---------------
15300 gallons/35 gal/min = 437.14 minutes
That's all there is to it.
