Question 645050

81x^4 = (x − 2)^4

I know 81 can be simplified to 3^4, so I'm at (3x)^4 = (x-2)^4
Where do I go from here?

{{{81x^4 = (x - 2)^4}}}

{{{(3x)^4 = (x - 2)^4}}}, as you stated

Since the exponents are equal, then their bases are equal too. Therefore, we have:
3x = x - 2

3x - x = - 2

2x = - 2

{{{x = - 2/2}}}, or {{{highlight_green(- 1)}}}
