Question 644382
let f = father's age and s = susan's age

f = 2s + 3

f*s = 560

(2s + 3)*s = 560

s(2s + 3) = 560

2s^2 + 3s = 560

2s^2 + 3s - 560 = 0

(2s+35)(s-16) = 0

2s+35 = 0 or s-16 = 0

2s = -35 or s = 16

s = -35/2 or s = 16

s = -17.5 or s = 16

Toss the negative solution to get the only solution: s = 16

So Susan is 16 years old.

f = 2s + 3

f = 2(16) + 3

f = 32 + 3

f = 35

and her father is 35 years old
