Here's one way:
(2/5) - (y/(y-2))
The LCD is 5(y-2)
Write each fraction with LCD as its denominator, as follows:
[2(y-2)]/LCD -[2y/LCD]
Combine the numerators to get:
[2y-4-2y]/LCD
-4/[5(y-2)]

Another interpretation is 2/(5-y)/(y-2)
=2(y-2)/(5-y)
=[2y-4]/(5-y]

There are several others but I will skip that.
Moral of the story: Use parentheses so others
will see the problem the way you see it.
