I presume you are talking about *[tex \LARGE y]-intercepts when you say vertical and *[tex \LARGE x]-intercepts when you say horizontal.  *[tex \LARGE y]-intercepts is(are) the point(s) where a graph intersect(s) the *[tex \LARGE y]-axis.  *[tex \LARGE y]-intercepts of the graphs of functions are ordered pairs that always have the form *[tex \LARGE \left(0,f(0)\right)].  *[tex \LARGE x]-intercepts is(are) the point(s) where a graph intersect(s) the *[tex \LARGE x]-axis and are ordered pairs that always have the form *[tex \LARGE \left(x_i,0\right)] where all *[tex \LARGE x_i] are contained in the set of zeros of the function.
