Question 641046
I need help with writing a linear equation that is parallel when given the x intercept.
y=-2/5x+3 x-intercept= -4
:
This is the slope/intercept form y -= mx + b
Original equation
{{{-2/5}}}x + 3 = y
Parallel equations have the same slope
x intercept occurs when y = 0, given x = -4, find the y intercept (b)
{{{-2/5}}}(-4) + b = 0
+{{{8/5}}} + b = 0
b = +{{{-8/5}}}
therefore the parallel equation with an x intercept of -4:
y = {{{-2/5}}}x - {{{-8/5}}}
:
The graph, original equations is red,
Parallel equation with -4 x-intercept is green
{{{ graph( 300, 300, -10, 10, -10, 10, -.4x+3, -.4x-1.6) }}}
