Question 632843
Take HALF of the coefficient of y, which is 7, and SQUARE it to get 49. Add this to each side of the equation:

y^2 + 14y + 49 = 32 + 49
(y+7)^2 = 81

Take the square root of each side:
{{{(y+7) = 0 +- 9}}}
{{{y=-7 +- 9}}}

Calculate each value:
y=-7 +9 =2

y=-7-9 = -16
