how to calculate the percentage of $1722.50 that is equal $277.27?
Different teachers have their preferred method.  Mine is to represent percentage as a fraction with the percent in the numerator and 100 in the denominator.  Set that = to the part over the whole amount.  Let x=whatever you're trying to trying to find, in this case, percent.
